Brendan Haywood won’t play for the Charlotte Bobcats tonight, because of a family emergency. That means Bismack Biyombo will get the start, and see a big chunk of minutes at center.
For those who forgot, Biyombo had himself one heck of a highlight play to end one of the games between these two teams last year.
Biz hasn’t gotten off to a hot start this season, so this game could be what he needs to jump-start his game.
On the year Biyombo has played just 16.7 minutes per game. In those limited minutes he’s scoring 2.3 points, grabbing three rebounds and blocking 1.7 shots per game.
None of those numbers are good, except for the blocks. If this is a trend which applies to minutes instead of just games, Biyombo should get three or four blocks tonight.
The man he’s replacing, Haywood has had a solid start to the year. In 26.7 minutes per game, he’s scoring 8.3 points, grabbing nine rebounds and blocking one shot per game. He’s also shooting 55 percent this year.
His “family emergency” hasn’t been described, but whatever it is, hopefully he takes as much time as he needs to get through it, and, more importantly, hopefully it doesn’t turn out to be as bad as “emergency” makes it seem.
