NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver met with media in Charlotte Monday during a visit to Charlotte. According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, the majority of his 20-minute interview answered questions about the Charlotte Bobcats potentially changing their name back to the Charlotte Hornets. Silver told reporters that at the minimum, a change back to the Hornets name would take a minimum of 18 months.

Since the New Orleans Hornets will officially become the Pelicans next season, the Hornets name is open to return back to the Queen City. If the Bobcats decided to put the wheels in motion to become the Hornets, then the Hive would return to Charlotte by the 2015 season. Which means that at least for one more season Rufus will roam freely in the Time Warner Cable Arena.

There are still no reports that the Bobcats have decided to change the name, but all indications are that they’re doing their research and giving it heavy consideration. Since Michael Jordan purchased the team, name change rumors have been an ongoing topic.
