ESPN insider Chris Broussard writes that Al Jefferson is seeking a contract starting around $15 million. Jefferson was in Charlotte today to visit with the team. There”s been no word on whether a contract was offered.

Broussard writes that Jefferson isn’t going to rush his decision on a new team and will wait for Dwight Howard to decide where he’ll play next season. Depending on Howard’s decision, additional suitors could show interest in Jefferson. Broussard mentions the Dallas Mavericks as a suitor.

The Bobcats might not be as willing as other teams to offer $15 million to Jefferson. He’s a logical fit and a very productive player, but the team can’t risk having a bloated contract backfire on them. Jefferson would improve the team, but the cost would have to be convenient.

If Jefferson proves to be too expensive, cheaper alternatives like Carl Landry, Marreese Speights, and J.J. Hickson could interest the Bobcats.
