The Charlotte Bobcats will face the Miami Heat Friday from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO. Charlotte lost their preseason opener 87-85 to the Atlanta Hawks after a game winning basket by rookie Dennis Schroder with under three seconds left.
Jannero Pargo missed a three pointer on the following possession as time expired. Ramon Sessions led the Bobcats with 17 points and Kemba Walker added 12.
Rookie Cody Zeller started at forward in his first NBA action. The Bobcats first round pick finished with nine points and five rebounds including a few highlight reel finishes in transition.
The Bobcats learned Thursday that veteran center Brendan Haywood will miss the next 12 weeks with a stress fracture in his left foot. Haywood, who missed Tuesday’s game, had a stress reaction in the same foot last season, which forced him to miss the end of the season. Haywood averaged 3.5 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Bobcats last season.
Charlotte also shortened their roster by waiving guards Abdul Gaddy and Troy Daniels.
Miami is coming off a 112-107 win over the Detroit Pistons Thursday. Chris Bosh had 28 points and NBA Finals MVP LeBron James had nine points, seven assists and three rebounds.
The Heat are looking to make their fourth straight Finals appearance and win their third straight championship in the upcoming season. Since James joined the Heat in 2010, the Bobcats are winless in 11 regular season tries against the team.
In the offseason Miami added former lottery picks Greg Oden and Michael Beasley. Oden, the first overall pick in 2007, has not played in the league in three years. Beasley, Miami’s second overall pick in 2008, was waived by the Phoenix Suns with two years remaining on his contract.
The Bobcats and Heat will tipoff at 8:30 p.m. and the game appears to be untelevised.
