The Charlotte Bobcats closed out the preseason with an 85-83 road victory over the New York Knicks Friday. Kemba Walker called it a “huge win” for the team, who won five of their last exhibition games.
The Bobcats displayed a vastly improved defense, allowing just 83.8 points in eight preseason games. For comparison, the team held opponents to below 90 points 11 times during the preseason and regular season in 2012-13.
Though there’s still work to be done offensively, the Bobcats are showing the right signs of re-building a defensive culture in Charlotte.
In nine seasons the Bobcats have one playoff appearance and a .346 win percentage.
Despite a clearly improved roster and what looks to be a legitimate NBA head coach, the Bobcats aren’t expected to contend for the playoffs in 2014. The Bobcats will again have one of the youngest rosters in the league and while competing for a championship remains a distant aspiration, the Bobcats could be in for a more competitive season than past years.
