The Charlotte Bobcats announced Wednesday that starting forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will miss four to six weeks with a broken left hand. The timetable would put Kidd-Gilchrist’s return at some point in mid-January.

Kidd-Gilchrist suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fourth metacarpal in his left hand during Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks. Kidd-Gilchrist is averaging 9.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and shooting above 50 percent from the field. He has started in 18 of the Bobcats 19 games.

Kidd-Gilchrist has arguably been the Bobcats best individual defender this season; the team is 5.3 points better with him on the floor.
