The Charlotte Bobcats are expected to sign Chris Douglas-Roberts, according to Marc Stein of ESPN. Douglas-Roberts has been playing in the NBA’s Developmental League with the Texas Legends.

Douglas-Roberts was drafted in the second round by the New Jersey Nets in 2008, where he spent two seasons before making stops with the Milwaukee Bucks and Dallas Mavericks. Douglas-Roberts turns 27 next month and has played 161 games in the NBA.

Most recently, Douglas-Roberts received a training camp invite from the New York Knicks.

With injuries to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) and Jeff Taylor (heel), the Bobcats are short on small forwards.

Anthony Tolliver started at forward Monday against the Golden State Warriors, but Tolliver is better used as a stretch power forward. The Bobcats do have former Syracuse sharpshooter James Southerland on the roster, but he is inactive.

12/11 Update: Southerland will be waived by the Bobcats to make room for Douglas-Roberts.
