After missing six weeks with a broken left hand, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will return to the court Tuesday when the Charlotte Bobcats host the New York Knicks. Kidd-Gilchrist will be inserted back into the Bobcats starting lineup and will wear padding on his left hand to protect his fingers.

Coach Steve Clifford told reporters that he’s not sure how much Kidd-Gilchrist will be able to handle in his return and expects to play the forward in segments of minutes to ease him back into action.

Jeff Taylor, Anthony Tolliver and Chris Douglas-Roberts all split starts in Kidd-Gilchrist’s absence. Taylor is out of the remainder of the season with a ruptured achilles.
