Microsoft releases Azure backup services at United Kingdom data centres

Microsoft releases Azure backup services at United Kingdom data centres

Since the cloud offers an entirely new way of building out the infrastructure needed for modern workloads, new technologies are being developed and patented on a frequent basis.

The Microsoft Azure IP Advantage programme aims to tackle the growing issue of IP lawsuits in the cloud that have arisen as businesses have looked to adapt to the digital economy and transform the way they deliver products and services.

The Site Recovery service will also allow on-premises physical servers to be replicated in the Azure cloud for backup and recovery purposes.

Suffice to say the 51 per cent figure applies to the UK South region, which is good news given that just last December Microsoft said Brexit-inspired currency fluctuations made a price rise inevitable. For example, AWS recently lowered prices for some of its cloud services.

"With Azure Backup and Site Recovery, Microsoft customers can be confident that their information is safe, secure and available whenever and wherever they need it", he said, adding that many major customers are already using the facilities.

Microsoft has kicked off a preview of its Storage Service Encryption (SSE) for Azure customers, enabling organizations to protect their cloud files with the added security of an encryption at rest feature.

Azure customers can now backup and restore files from Microsoft's United Kingdom data centres. With the new Site Recovery service, Azure customers will now be able to choose between locally redundant storage and geo-redundant storage.

In addition to the UK Azure rollout, Microsoft is also planning to introduce the Azure cloud services, Office 365 and Dynamics 365 services in France.

"To that end, today we are happy to announce significant price reductions on several Azure virtual machine families and storage types".

Prices have now reduced on its Compute optimized instances, F series, which currently down by 18 percent on Windows VM and 23 percent for Linux VM. The idea behind this is said to be to lower the barrier for customer entry and boost cloud transformation. As CSPs (Cloud Service Providers) build scale, their operational costs are lower and they can pass on those savings to new customers.
