Spotify offices moving to WTC, will add 1000 jobs

The lease is a huge milestone for Silverstein Properties, which owns the completed 4 WTC, 7 World Trade Center, the under-construction 3 World Trade Center and the planned 2 World Trade Center.

Spotify is moving its US headquarters to 4 World Trade Center in Manhattan, and adding more than 1,000 new jobs in New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in a press release Wednesday. It will vacate its current headquarters at 620 Ave. of the Americas in Chelsea, owned by RXR Realty.

In addition to creating more than 1,000 jobs, Spotify will retain 832 existing positions. Cuomo added that Spotify will get rent reduction of up to Dollars 11 million from Empire State Development.

The world's leading music-streaming company is headed to the World Trade Center. "Along with the concentration of media firms already here, and the forthcoming Performing Arts Center, Spotify's move is going to jump-start the growth of a vibrant local entertainment scene in Lower Manhattan".

Gutierrez said the new positions would include engineers, marketers, analysts and other tech-related jobs. Spotify's decision to expand their headquarters in NY has already drawn a good bit of praise.

While less known for his pop culture bona fides than playlist creators such as former president Barack Obama, Cuomo picked multiple songs by Billy Joel, a NY native known to be the governor's friend. The decision by Spotify "adds a growing dimension to downtown", said Cuomo.

Spotify is reportedly considering a potential USA stock market listing.

The music-streaming behemoth is headed to 4 WTC, and expanding its headquarters.

Spotify was launched by Swedish-based Spotify AB in 2008. That would make Spotify Europe's biggest tech listing since the listing of Rocket Internet of Germany in 2014. As of September 2016, the service had 40 million paid subscribers. The company reported an operating loss of 184.5 million euros ($195.5 million) in 2015, up from 165.1 million in 2014.
