97-year-old twins die on the same day

The twin sisters were found by a neighbor at approximately 8:11 a.m. on Saturday morning, still clinging to life.

Cops think Jean may have then tripped on a rug on the garage floor as she went inside to call for help.

Temperatures fell into the single-digits overnight Saturday due to Arctic air filtering south from Canada.

Jean Haley and Martha Williams arrived in the world together almost a century ago.

Police say a neighbor reported seeing an elderly woman lying in the driveway of her home.

Investigators believe that Williams, of East Providence, R.I., may have fallen in the driveway walking to her vehicle, according to a police statement.

The sisters had returned to Haley's home from dinner Friday night with their 89-year-old sister. Authorities arrived at the scene and rushed both women to Rhode Island Hospital in nearby Providence.

The exact cause of the deaths of the 97-year-old twin sisters has not yet been officially determined.

At this time investigators believe there was no foul play involved.

Relatives outside the isolated waterfront home said they were still in too much shock to speak to reporters Sunday, the Providence Journal reports. John W. "Jack" Haley, Jr., who lived at the home on Opechee Drive, died in 1995 leaving behind a wife, Jean, and three children.
