Alphabet Plans to Release New Pixel Phone Later This Year

Now, Google is speculated to be working on its successor, the Pixel 2.

Talking to AndroidPit, Google's Senior VP of Hardware, Rick Osterloh confirmed that another Pixel device will be launched this year and it will still cost a premium.

You cannot expect a phone set to compete against iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8 to come cheap. Moreover, Pixel phones are the first concept from Google, and this shows, one example being the lens flare issue in its camera. Besides, the Pixel devices will continue to be marketed as premium flagship devices, unlike the budget variants of Nexus Android smartphones.

There is an annual rhythm in the industry.

We'll keep following the matter and update you on the latest developments.

Google Pixel's successor is on its way. But in the same announcement, Google also said their intent to focus on smaller devices such as smartphones and tablets which make the netizens speculate about the imminent release of Nexus 7 (2017). On the pricing front, Osterloh has confirmed that Pixel is of superior quality and therefore, it would be priced at a similar or more expensive bracket than the previous products. Consumers can expect Quick Charge 4.0 in case Google Pixel 2 houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset.

Osterloh did not provide details on when the phone may be released or about specifications on the feature set of the Pixel 2. As regards the price, the Samsung Galaxy S8 handset is expected to be way more expensive than the Pixel 2. The fingerprint scanner for the Samsung flagship will be embedded in the display, whereas, Pixel 2 may go with the existing setup of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Google had earlier run a program that invited Pixel fans and other enthusiasts to suggest ways at improving the Pixel experience. The Pixel and Pixel XL have already been highly praised for their camera performance.

This does not mean that the Pixel 2 would not be a device worthy of purchase, however. With that being said, one can also argue that the tipster is simply re-aligning his claim because of the recent statement made by Osterloh regarding the Pixel line.
