Danny Jacobs comes oh, so close to beating Gennady Golovkin! Rematch?

Knowing what he's going against, and has faced in the past, Forbes said Jacobs is ready for this moment.

According to CompuBox, Golovkin landed 105 jabs compared to only 31 by Jacobs, but Jacobs scored more power punches, 144-126. But we've never seen Golovkin hurt, so it's not likely.

The 34-year-old Kazakh failed to knock out his opponent for the first time since 2008. Now, Golovkin is ever so much closer to Canelo Alvarez - who, considering the way Golovkin eked out a victory, perhaps won't be as big an underdog when he fights Golovkin, who retained three of his middleweight belts with the victory at Madison Square Garden.

"My goal is all the belts in the middleweight division, " he said after winning 115-112 on two cards, 114-113 on another. "It is my dream".

Gonzalez, who won his previous 46 fights, was put down in the first round but battled back to make it a thrilling fight. It simply hasn't been a profitable place for boxing, though his handlers think there potentially could be a bigger purse during the expo. Hopefully, Alvarez holds up his end of the bargain in May against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and his promoter Oscar de la Hoya doesn't tuck his head between his legs. By the time the decision came around, many felt that Jacobs had done enough to beat Golovkin. Several of his listeners responded, basically, with a "We've heard that before" mantra.

Jacobs didn't win the fight, though. The decision didn't go in my favour, although I do really feel like I won the fight. But Jacobs concedes some fighters appear wary of him once in the ring. The loss ended Jacobs' streak of 12 straight knockouts. He has beaten cancer and only lost one fight, which coincidentally was to Dmitry Pirog - the man who retired from boxing after a back injury in preparation to fight GGG.

"Daniel is my favorite fighter", Golovkin said. I'm looking forward to display my true skills against the best. "I know he has good boxing IQ".

Much of the success Jacobs enjoyed in the bout came when he was fighting from a southpaw stance. He won the last three rounds on two of the judges' cards.

After the bout Golovkin told reporters: "I couldn't destroy him". "I think these fans support me on the decision".

Yet it's a testament to Golovkin's drive and skill he was able to take on a star like Jacobs and keep his flawless record intact with this victory. But at least he remains in the conversation. After easy Ryan Martin and Carlos Cuadra's easy wins, in the co-main event Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez faced Wisaksil Wanget and it highlighted the night.
