Former 'Power Rangers' actor pleads guilty to killing roommate with sword

Ricardo Medina, who spent time in Auckland in 2011 making Power Rangers Samurai, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in relation to the death of his room-mate in early 2015. According to reports, Medina and his roommate, Josh Sutter, got into a heated argument over the actor's girlfriend on January 31, 2015. With sentencing set for March 30, Medina could face up to six years in state prison.

But he was arrested once again early a year ago after local police launched further investigation, and he was charged with murder after the second arrest, according to TMZ. Medina then stabbed him with the sword he kept near his bedroom door. Medina claimed he acted in self defense, and prosecutors waited a year before filing a murder charge.

After the stabbing, Medina called the police, and Sutter was pronounced dead soon after being taken to a nearby hospital. He had been arguing with Medina about the actor's girlfriend's parking. After additional investigation, he was charged with murder in January 2016.

Medina played the leader of the Power Rangers in the 2002 Power Rangers Wild Force series and then appeared as the villain Deker in two later series. This sentence has been reduced drastically considering that, prior to his plea, he could have faced 26 years to life if convicted. He returned to the brand, which had been bought back from Disney by Haim Saban, in 2011 for Power Rangers Samurai.

The murder occurred after Medina and Stutter became engaged in an argument over the former's ex girlfriend. He has also appeared on such prime-time shows as "CSI: Miami" and "ER".
