Manchester City ease to win over struggling Sunderland

Sunderland boss David Moyes has admitted that Manchester City are a frightening team to play against, but insists that they are not unstoppable ahead of his teams match against the Citizens on Sunday.

The good news for Sunderland is that Papy Djilobodji is back after a ban and should be in the line-up, however, Jason Denayer will be ineligible for the match with City being his parent club. The big thing is getting enough of the ball.

"Our players gave everything they could but when we got the ball back which we did quite a bit, we at times lacked the quality to make opportunities or build the play".

For northeast side Sunderland, six points adrift of safety, it was an all too familiar story of simply being outclassed.

Black Cats manager David Moyes is also without Jason Denayer, the defender on loan from City, who is unable to play against his parent club. Paddy McNair, Duncan Watmore, Victor Anichebe (all knee) and Lee Cattermole (hip) are still out.

"It's a pity that the distance between us and Chelsea is so big".

Peter Schmeichel has launched another stinging attack on Pep Guardiola, claiming Manchester City do not have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League. I said that to the players, they should remain positive. "Never. It doesn't matter the position they are".

"It doesn't matter the position they are, I know in that position they will be more physical and pay more attention due to their situation". Sunderland's situation is not easy.

The floodgates opened when Sunderland conceded in their last home game against Southampton but there was no surrender here. "The game plans to stop Man City playing, which is very hard, and the players gave everything they could". "We know we don't have to play brilliant football to stay up, but confidence is key in modern football and you saw what Leicester did last season when they had it, so we have to stay strong". A win for Pep Guardiola's side could see them move up to second above Tottenham and Liverpool, and eight points behind top-of-the-table Chelsea.

He added: "I am talking about my team, thinking about the next game, step by step, focused on what we have to do in the next game".
