Microsoft to Sign Windows Vista Death Certificate on April 11, Nothing…

The Windows 10 Creators Update is almost here.

Microsoft's support page on the matter says that Windows 10 is the "only" OS to support these updated hardware configurations. Users of Windows 7 and 8.1 would be out of luck, with Microsoft having no plans to support the new chips on the old operating systems. Not even product or security updates.

Your PC uses a processor that isn't supported on this version of Windows and you won't receive updates.

No such luck for Windows Vista users.

Microsoft has stopped supporting its older operating systems if the system is running on Intel's Kaby Lake, AMD's Ryzen and Qualcomm's 8996 processors. Build 15061 is now available, but as has been the case in recent weeks, there are no new front-facing features; instead, Microsoft is focusing on fixing known issues and prepping the Creators Update for a final release.

In fact, a handful of them contain images from my own photography work which I had accepted as part of those submission opportunities. Microsoft warned Vista users that their systems could be compromised by an attacker in the future, especially as Security Essentials support has also now ended for the operating system.

It's a move that looks created to force users of the newer hardware to update to the latest version of Windows, as not doing so will leave their software open to security threats.

While Microsoft and other fretted about businesses not ditching Windows XP because they loved it so much, the task of switching off official life support on 11 April will be much more straight forward.

At the time, it said it would not be releasing drivers for Ryzen running on Windows 7. Instead, it was meant to avoid large automatic downloads in order to prevent Windows 10 updates from blowing through a user's bandwidth cap.

A few days ago we learned that with the Creators Update Microsoft has once again given themselves permission to download updates over metered connections ie. connections which charge by the megabyte. It's also likely that AMD's new Ryzen processor is included in that list.

But for many Vista users running a now stable operating system on a decent PC, their choice is not as clear cut.
