PlayStation Held Half Of The Console Market In 2016

PlayStation Held Half Of The Console Market In 2016

After all, when Wii U production ended in Japan just past year, the physical manufacturing of Nintendo's previous system before the Switch halted globally soon after.

Sony had previously said that it expected PS3 to have a ten year product cycle, as so it will be - the console launched in Japan and America in 2006 before arriving in Europe in early 2007. Despite this, the device was able to become one of the highest-selling consoles in history thanks to the help of such blockbuster exclusive titles like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, LittleBigPlanet, and The Last of Us.

For the uninitiated, the PlayStation 4 firmware 4.50 update offers new features on the console such as external drive support, custom background photos, and notification menu updates.

Although Microsoft no longer provides sales figures for Xbox, recent numbers released by analysts suggest that Sony still leads the gaming console market, with the PS4 selling twice the units of Xbox One in 2016.

Sony has revealed on its official website that, after 10 years, it will stop producing PS3s in Japan. As of now, there is no information from Sony on it. However, Japanese site GamesTalk.net reports that shipments will be completed in March 2017. People who want to buy the console will have to look for it in the secondhand market.

PlayStation Now senior marketing manager Brian Dunn then said, "After thoughtful consideration, we made a decision to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices".

All of the games in the service, including PS4 games, will be included with a single PS Now subscription.
