Riot win $10 million lawsuit against League of Legends scripting site LeagueSharp

Whether it's wall hackers in Counter Strike or bots in League of Legends, it seems anti-cheat measures are never good enough to keep up with the elusive developers that sell this kind of service.

The court has ruled in favor of Riot Games, slamming a popular League of Legends scripting website with a hefty fine for conducting damaging services.

The dispute started back in August of 2016 when Riot Games filed a complaint stating that they believe LeagueSharps services breach the DMCA, Saying that their service assisted thousands of players in cheating in the eSports game.

"Riot is informed and believes, and on that basis alleges, that tens of thousands of people now subscribe to LeagueSharp, and that defendants generate hundreds of thousands of dollars each month in connection with LeagueSharp", the complaint said.

With the victorious legal action, Riot Games sends out a message to all players that cheating will not be tolerated in League of Legends.

In addition to the settlement money, Leaguesharp was forced to shut down, as it directly violates Riot Games' Terms of Use. According to the lawsuit, LeagueSharp then leaked private information about one of Riot's employees. Leaguesharp was a scripting/hacking service providing its clients with unfair advantages in-game. You also should be aware that using third-party tools in League of Legends may result in the suspension or banning of your account by Riot Games.

The settlement ultimately awards Riot $10 million, places a court-ordered ban on the software, and gives Riot control of LeagueSharp's websites.
