The New American Gods Trailer Is Trippy as Hell

Starz has released a new trailer for the first season of American Gods. It's a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media.

The show, much like the novel, follows an ordinary man named Shadow Moon as he's recruited as a bodyguard by the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and slowly drawn into a world where forgotten gods of myth and folklore prepare for war against a newer set of gods embodying modern obsessions, and the odd things they find along the way.

The trailer sets out a surreal bloodbath which ties together past and present, as the old gods brought to America by various groups of immigrants are fading, supplanted in the public consciousness by the new gods of tech and media and conspiracy theories. Included are looks at Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Crispin Glover as Mr. But in truth, Mr. Wednesday is a powerful old deity, on a cross-country mission to build an army and reclaim his lost glory. "American Gods" does not hold back, and I am so happy that Starz is the network to produce it. Starz is the flawless fit for "American Gods" because as a network they do not shy away or hold back the blood, guts, and brutality. Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, Heroes) and Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049, Alien: Covenant, Murder on the Orient Express, Kings, Heroes) are writers and showrunners. David Slade is directing the pilot and additional episodes. Starz retains all network pay TV and SVOD rights to the project.

Before Bryan Fuller was attached to American Gods and Star Trek: Discovery, he was working with Mads Mikkelsen on Hannibal.
