The Charlotte Bobcats are playing this year’s preseason with an 18 man roster. Before the season starts they will trim that number down to 15. As far as fringe players the ‘Cats could take into the regular season, Dajuan Summers has the best shot.

Summers is a third year (position) who spent his first two seasons in Detroit.

In his rookie year out of Georgetown, Summers played 44 games for the Pistons and averaged three points, one rebound and .4 assists in 9.2 minutes per game. In his sophomore year (still with the Pistons) he played 22 games and averaged 3.4 points, .6 rebounds and .1 assist. Last year, with the Hornets, Summers played 15 games and averaged 4.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and .7 assists.

For a guy that’s making less than a million dollars a year, if the Bobcats did keep him around, it’d be a pretty low risk move.

This preseason in an average of nine minutes per, he’s averaging 2.8 points, two rebounds and half an assist per game. He’s only shooting 33 percent from the field, but oddly enough, on three pointers, he’s shooting 60 percent (three out of five).

Another interesting preseason Summers fact: He hasn’t committed a foul yet.

With Charlotte’s future 15 man roster, we already know that Ramon Sessions, Kemba Walker, Gerald Henderson, Ben Gordon, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Jeffrey Taylor, Tyrus Thomas, Byron Mullens, Brendan Haywood, Bismack Biyombo, Gana Diop, and Matt Carroll are going to be on the team. Reggie Williams will probably be on the roster, too, and we can assume the team will keep Cory Higgins around.

That leaves one spot, and Summers has been the fringe guy that’s played the most this preseason.

Expect to see him as a permanent addition to the Bobcats roster this season.
