The Charlotte Bobcats and GM Rich Cho might do the unthinkable: They could turn the sagging lump of burning crap that is Gana Diop’s basketball talent, into a solid basketball talent, Carl Landry.

The New Orleans Hornets arereportedly interested in Diop’s expiring contract (and surely nothing else) and the Bobcats only (gaping) weakness is at power forward.

Landry, of course, has to accept a contract in order to be traded to Charlotte and there are reports that he might be willing to do just that.

The consensus in the twitterverse is that Landry will decide between Golden State and the Bobcats over the next few days. If Cho can pull this off, he would essentially be a modern day Alchemist.

The worst season in NBA history is in the books, and it’s time to look at the players who made it all possible.

In the coming days I’ll take a look at every single Bobcats player (and I mean every single one), grade their season, and take a look into their future.

The other day I looked at Matt Carroll’s (less-than-eye-pleasing) season. Today, it’s DeSagana Diop’s turn.

Offense: F

I’m really, really not a Diop fan, but I’ll be as objective as possible grading him. The F he gets for his offensive performance this season is wholly warranted; His per-36 minute numbers are absolutely dreadful. He had career lows in points and free-throw percentage per-36, his offensive rating (points produced per 100 possessions) was a sickening 81, and he scored a grand total of 31 points this season.

I know he was signed at a time when Charlotte was (unbelievable, I know) making a push to get into the playoffs, but his contract is like a hot sack of elephant manure rotting a hole through the Bobcats bench every game.

Defense: F

Just three percent of opponent possessions ended in Gana Diop blocks, he averaged less than six defensive rebounds per 36 minutes and his defensive rating (points produced allowed per 100 possessions) was 109.

At least he didn’t do anything as embarrassing defensively as he did when he air-balled that free-throw early on this season…

Miscellaneous: F

There wasn’t anything good about Diop’s season, except that he didn’t play all that much.

His player efficiency rating was less than seven.

He averaged less than one steal AND block combined per game.

Still, I can’t hate on the guy too much… His assist to turnover ratio was a positive 0.2!

Diop will almost certainly be back next year. There’s no way a team is going to pay him more than what he’d get if he signs his player option for next year with Charlotte.

I’d be perfectly content if whoever gets picked to man the Bobcats’ helm next year doesn’t play Diop at all, though.
