According to NBC Sports (who reported the following based on a Yahoo Sports story, which is linked further down), Kenyon Martin just wants to play some basketball.

Previously, reports stated that he would only play for a contender, and for more than the league minimum.

Now he says he’ll play for anyone for any price:

“If someone calls me tomorrow, I don’t care who it is, whether it’s losing or winning at this point,” Martin said. “If someone calls me tomorrow and wants me to come in, I’m going. Guys are going down and [teams] are like, ‘Well, we are going to stick with what we got.’ I’m like, ‘Really?’ I started questioning myself, ‘Am I that bad of a guy?’”

Rich Cho, Bobcats GM, better call his bluff.

Although Martin struggled last year in LA, he was dealing with a hurt knee and still put up some OK defensive numbers (102 defensive rating, one block and one steal per game).

For his 12 year career, Martin has averaged 13 points, 7.1 rebounds, two assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks in 31.6 minutes per game.

Cho and the rest of Charlotte’s front office did a lot of good this off season, filling holes at almost every spot on the roster… Except power forward.

At 6’9″, Martin may not be a true PF, but he can sure as hell play the position. He would probably start off as Byron Mullen’s backup, but he could also spell Michael Kidd-Gilchrist at small forward. With a bench of Ramon Sessions, Ben Gordon and Martin, the Bobcats would seriously have a more-than-half-way-decent-second-unit.

Even if it doesn’t mean signing Martin, the way Byron Mullens and Bismack Biyombo have started the season, the ‘Cats need to figure something out at that PF spot very soon.
