It was a crazy (controversial?) night, but in the end, it was the Celtics who came out on top in game four of the Eastern conference finals of the NBA playoffs.

LeBron James flopped Kevin Garnett into his third foul of the game just as Rajon Rondo was driving uncontested to the rim for a possible game winning layup with less than 25 seconds to play.

The King’s acting had no effect on the outcome of the first four quarters of play, though, because Udonis Haslem bricked a 15 foot jumper at the buzzer on the very next possession.

Then, in the opening minute of overtime, Paul Peirce bumped into Shane Battier, who, of course, went flying. Peirce fouled out.

But Karma would catch up to the King and his court.

Just a few minutes later, the game still hanging in the balance, James tried to post up Michael Pietrus, who, of course, fell down. James fell with him, and the officials called him for the charge.

It wasn’t the right call, but it felt right after the way regulation ended.

Rondo was special again, putting in a solid night’s work with 15 points, 15 assists and five rebounds. Pierce scored 23 and added six rebounds before his departure, and every Boston starter scored in double figures.

A report on ESPN says Chris Bosh could be back for game five in Miami if there are no set backs with his rehab.

The Oklahoma City Thunder tied up their Western conference finals series with the San Antonio Spurs in game four 109-103.

Durant had a near triple-double (36 points, eight assists and six rebounds) and Serge Ibaka went 11 of 11 from the floor on his way to a 26 point, five rebound, three block performance.

The game was an all-out slug fest, though.

Both teams shot at least 50 percent from the floor, the Spurs hit 11 threes, and neither team was too loose with the ball.

The game was won on the boards (OKC out-rebounded the Spurs by 10) and because of how the Thunder got their points; San Antonio had 17 assists compared to Oklahoma City’s 27. The Thunder got more easy looks out of the flow of their offense, and the Spurs had to rely on their players getting creative in order to score.

That series will switch back to San Antonio for game five tonight at 9 p.m. on TNT.

With three games left in the regular season, Charlotte has the opportunity to effect the Eastern Conference playoffs in a significant way.

After their match-up with the Washington Wizards tonight, the Bobcats play two teams fighting to stay out of a first round series with the Heat.

If the New York Knicks win out, and the Orlando Magic lose out, the ‘Bockers will get the sixth seed and push the Dwight Howard-less Magic into a dreaded first round slot against Miami.

All the Magic need to do to avoid that fate is win one of their final two games verses the Bobcats or at the Memphis Grizzlies (I think the game they’ve circled is obvious).

The Knicks also get the Bobcats; On the last day of the season, on TNT, while Orlando simultaneously battles Memphis. Should the Knicks beat the Clippers and the Bobcats knock off Orlando on Wednesday, that Thursday night game could be one of the most important contests of the waning NBA season… And Charlotte would be a part of it.

For what it’s worth, the ‘Cats have already defeated both Orlando and New York, by 16 in March and eight in January respectively.

If the Bobcats manage to beat either of them again this week, they would assure themselves of not becoming the worst team in NBA history. Also, they still have a chance to go on a winning streak this year, and as impossible as it sounds, they can still finish the season with double digit wins.

Modest goals, I know, but in a season as putrid as Charlotte’s, any goal reached is a positive one.

It all starts tonight, though, when Charlotte tries to shake itself of this disgusting 20 game losing streak. The last time the ‘Cats and DC met up, Washington obliterated the Bobcats, 113-85.
