Roberto Gato has covered Charlotte Bobcats NBA trade rumors ad nauseum recently, and with the trade deadline looming, the question must be asked: Will the ‘Cats actually do anything?

The most likely move is a Ben Gordon for Kris Humphries swap.

The Nets are said to be holding out till that last minute to pull the trigger on this deal. Brooklyn is reportedly looking to acquire Josh Smith, and if that happens, they’ll have to send Humphries to Atlanta.

Gerald Henderson is another player that’s come up in plenty of ‘Cats rumors.

I think Charlotte is trying to get a future pick out of him from a team that’s in position to do something in the playoffs this year. He’s only got one year left on his deal, so he can stabilize a playoff team’s bench, add some wing defending and provide a decent scoring punch without dragging down anyone’s cap space.

And what about ‘Gana Diop?

He’s got one of the best expiring contracts in the entire league, but he’s also one of the worst big men in the entire league.

That’s why I don’t see him being moved. The only thing that would make sense for Diop, would be if Charlotte got into a massive three-way deal and sent him to a team that needed an incoming salary to match what they were sending out. If that happened, Charlotte would probably be able to get at least a first round pick in return.

In the end, Ben Gordon has the highest likelyhood of being moved.

If the Nets haven’t dealt Humphries by the time we’re within an hour of the deadline, don’t be surprised to see Gordon swapped for Humphries at the buzzer.

Before you gawk at the headline or send me a mean email for even suggesting this possibility… here me out. There are some NBA trade rumors surrounding Danny Granger now that he’s nearing a return to play (and now that Paul George is become more awesome by the day).

As for the Bobcats, they do have two rookie small forwards and they might not want to deal with Granger’s salary.

But, Granger has two years left on his deal, and there aren’t many Granger-level players available to Charlotte any other way than through a trade.

He’d instantly make them a better offensive team; Granger is a career 18.3 points per game scorer, and his career offensive rating (points produced per 100 minutes) is 110.

He’s also a solid rebounder at the small forward slot; He’s grabbed four boards per game over his career.

Finally, he’s a veteran star player.

Charlotte’s got a young blossoming star in Kemba Walker, and a potential star in Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, but the team’s veterans are really just that… Vets.

Ramon Sessions is good and Ben Gordon can put the ball through the rim, but they’re nowhere near Granger’s level of expertise with a basketball.

He would take pressure off Walker, give MKG some room to grow, and obviously make the Bobcats a better team.

Who knows what Charlotte would have to give up to get Granger… Probably ‘Gana Diop, Gerald Henderson another player and a draft pick… But if Indiana calls, the ‘Cats should listen.
