Maybe it’s the beard, but lately opponents can’t seem to figure Byron Mullens out.

Since returning from an ankle injury seven games ago, Mullens has scored in double figures in each game. Tonight Mullens finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, as the Charlotte Bobcats picked up a rare road victory, defeating the Orlando Magic 105-92.

It was Mullens third double double in seven games and his scoring has refreshed what throughout the season has been a vulnerable Bobcats frontcourt.

Kemba Walker and Gerald Henderson each had 24 points to lead the Bobcats in scoring. The Bobcats shot 47% from the field and 37% from three.

The Bobcats led by 20 at the half and never looked back thanks to their early offensive explosion, where they shot 59%.

Mullens had a tough matchup going against Orlando’s Nikola Vucevic. Vucevic has been one of the most surprising players in the league and is a candidate for Most Improved Player. Vucevic finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, collecting his 30thh double double of the season. Mullens though was able to hold his own and along with Henderson and Walker, formed a balanced offensive trio on the road.

Mullens recent production has shown what most Bobcats fans knew. When this team has a consistent scoring big man in their frontcourt, they are a lot better and a lot more interesting to watch. Mullens struggled with scoring and efficiency earlier in the season, but has been on a hot streak since his return and showing flashes of the player the Bobcats hope he can be.

Interestingly enough, Mullens turned 24 on Valentines Day. Right now, he’s making the hearts of Bobcats fans beat rapidly as the team looks a lot more fluid and competitive with his return to the lineup.

Tomorrow, the Bobcats are back in Charlotte to host the Detroit Pistons.
