Sports Illustrated asked 146 players to vote for the dirtiest player in the NBA, and Gerald Henderson came up 6th on that list.

I’m not sure how Hendo ended up that high, but players weren’t allowed to vote for their teammates, so I guess the guys on the Celtics and Lakers had to pick someone other than Kevin Garnett (second) and Metta World Peace (third).

Then again we all remember this.

Eduardo Najera finished 10th on the list and the Bobcats were one of three teams to have more two players in the top 15 of that list.

For what it’s worth, seven of the teams represented in the top 15 are either in the playoffs or still realistically have a chance to get in.

I doubt this is the kind of top 15 list Charlotte wants to be a part of, but hey, it’s takes everyone’s attention off everything they’re in the bottom 15 of.

There are some bad teams in the history of sports.

There’s your classic creamsicle flavored 0-14 Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the ’08 Lions in the NFL.

You’ve got your 8-67-5 Washington Capitals in the NHL, the 1960, 40-120 New York Mets in (modern) MLB and the 1972 Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA.

With their 101-73 loss to the Washington Wizards Monday night, the Charlotte Bobcats’ winning percent dropped to .109. That has them tied with those pitiful 76ers, and if Charlotte can’t pull a win out in its final two games, its winning percentage will be .106 at the end of the season and it’ll officially be the worst team in the history of the NBA.

There weren’t too many (any?) positive things to take away from this game on Charlotte’s side; Gerald Henderson’s 19 points on 5-12 shooting and 9-11 from the free-throw line were alright, I guess. Byron Mullens’ nine point, eight rebound performance wasn’t bad. The most impressive stat from his night was actually the +1 he finished in +/-.

There were plenty of things to be impressed by if you support the Wizards, though. Jan Vesely had 16 points and eight rebounds on 100 percent shooting. Also, the facts that John Wall dropped 16 and 14 on the Bobcats “D”, Nene scored 18 points on just 11 shots and as a team they out=rebounded Charlotte by ten.

The Bobcats are horrible at many things, and tonight was a beautifully depressing reminder of that. They shot 34.2 percent from the field, got outscored in the paint by 30 points and at one point late in the first half, they had more turnovers than made shots.

A few things I noticed

Derrick Brown might be the most inconsistent player during a game in the NBA. He had a solid first quarter all over the board, and then disappeared for the rest of the game.

It’s been said a million times over, but Bismack Biyombo really does jump at every little shot fake an opponent throws his way. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sometimes jumps just because he thought the guy he was guarding faked a shot. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumps at pump fakes during film sessions.

Tyrus Thomas got ejected for swiping the tip of Chris Singleton’s nose with an elbow early in the game. It was a questionable flagrant at best, but definitely not enough to warrant getting thrown out of the game. One can’t help but wonder if this had anything to do with that love tap Ron Artest gave to Greg Harden Sunday night.

As I mentioned in a previous post, if Charlotte beats Orlando Wednesday and the Knicks beat the Clippers and Bobcats to close out the season, New York will push the Magic into the seventh seed and avoid a first round match-up with the Miami Heat.

Fret not, oh ye fanatics of the small mammalion feline, AKA the stench that’s has hung over the NBA like so much putrid smog, the season is almost over, and it can almost be forgotten.
