The 2012 NBA draft is so deep that there will be players taken in the second round who can help their new team immediately.

Charlotte has the first pick in round two, so the Bobcats will have the best opportunity to find that special player.

Rich Cho’s new awesome-super-crazy scouting database should help the Bobcats in that regard, and with that, here are the five players that Charlotte should have on their second round big board:

1. Draymond Green:

Another forward, I know… But, Green is one of the most NBA-ready players in the entire draft, and he could fall to the second round.

Most assume that he has a rather low ceiling, but if all he gives the team that drafts him is what he gave to Michigan State for four years, I think that team will be more than pleased.

Green is a good shooter, a good defender, a good passer, and a good rebounder.

Charlotte needs help in all of those areas.

2. John Jenkins:

Rick Bonnell tweeted earlier that coach Mike Dunlap wants to improve the team’s perimeter game. Well, there might not be a better player to draft than Jenkins if that’s what Dunlap wants to do.

Jenkins was a career 44 percent three-point shooter at Vanderbilt, and he averaged over 19 points per game in his final two seasons there.

He wasn’t much of a passer, and he needs improvement defensively, but the team that drafts him won’t care too much about those things right away.

The team that draft Jenkins will care about how many deep shots he makes for them.

3. Kevin Jones:

If Charlotte goes with Bradley Beal or Harrison Barnes in round one, they should seriously consider drafting Jones in round two.

All the guy did last year (in the very tough Big East) was score almost 20 points, grab almost 11 rebounds and block one shot a game.

Jones could be a valuable contributor off the bench in round one to a team who needs an inside presence (BOBCATS).

4. Will Barton:

Some see Barton as a risk, even in the second round, but this 6-6 guard from Memphis has a ton of potential.

He’s also pretty good right now.

Barton averaged 18 points and three assists per game last year and finished up the season with a 92 defensive rating (points produced per 100 possessions allowed).

He’s a little small weight-wise, but he has a solid frame that will be able to hold more muscle.

5. Darius Miller

Darius Miller spent a full four years at Kentucky and averaged 8.2 points, 1.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game as well as a 38 percent three point shooting percentage during his career.

At 6-8 he can play forward or guard, and he’s big enough to play multiple positions defensively.

The Charlotte Bobcats hosted five players for pre-draft workouts Friday morning.

The group of big men included Virginia’s Mike Scott, Gonzaga’s Robert Sacre, Louisiana State’s Justin Hamilton, Southern Mississippi’s Maurice Bolden, Detroit’s Eli Holman and Belmont Abbey’s Kyle Phillips.

GM Rick Cho and President of Basketball Operations Rod Higgins attended the workout, along with team scouts.

Sacre had the sound bite of the day during his post-workout interviews. When a reporter with the Bobcats asked what he knew about the organization he laughed and said, “Well you guys drafted Adam Morrison from Gonzaga so that’s good .”

Out of all the guys that were there, Scott probably is the only one that has a shot to get picked up by the ‘Cats.

The great series of tubes (Internet) has him going anywhere from very early to somewhat late in the second round of mock drafts. Sacre is projected to go in the middle of the second round.

Still, I think the mostly likely choice for Charlotte and their second round pick is either Draymond Green from Michigan State or Kevin Jones from West Virginia. Both are projected to be available when the Bobcats pick.
