The worst season in NBA history is in the books, and it’s time to look at the players who made it all possible.

In the coming days I’ll take a look at every single Bobcats player (and I mean every single one), grade their season, and take a look into their future.

The other day I looked at Tyrus Thomas’ (disappointing) season. Today, it’s DJ White’s turn.

Offense: D+

Despite this being a lockout shortened season and all that jazz, DJ White played more games this year (54) than he had in any previous season.

He did play around a minute less per game this season, though, and his numbers fell off a little more than they should have.

White scored 12.9 points, dished out 1.5 assists and shot 49 percent per 36 minutes of action in 2012.

His true shooting percentage (takes into account two-point field goals, three point field goals, and free-throws) was a very solid 52 percent and his offensive rating (points produced per 100 possessions) was a 100.

Defense: D-

White’s defensive numbers didn’t drop off as much as his offensive numbers, but they didn’t have very far to drop.

His defensive rating (points produced allowed per 100 possessions) was 111, his defensive win share (wins contributed by a player’s defense) was a 0.3 and he averaged less than one steal and one block per 36 minutes.

Miscellaneous: D

White came off the bench for the most part, but started a handful of games this year. Because of a lack of size at the center position, was forced to guard opposing centers on more occasions than he would’ve liked to.

Still, his rebounding numbers weren’t too awful; he grabbed 11 percent of available rebounds, averaged just under seven boards per 36 minutes and had his share of offensive rebounds, grabbing almost one per game even though he played just 18 minutes per.

He was also pretty good at holding on to the ball, turning it over just 1.4 times per 36 minutes.

Overall: D

White is signed through the end of next season for 3 million dollars. It’d be nice to see his numbers get better, and I think they can.

Charlotte will almost certainly draft big if they get the first or second pick, so he might not see much of a minutes spike, but if he can score close to 10 points and grab 5 rebounds per game next year, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to resign him.

The worst season in NBA history is in the books, and it’s time to look at the players who made it all possible.

In the coming days I’ll take a look at every single Bobcats player (and I mean every single one), grade their season, and take a look into their future.

The other day I looked at Gana Diop’s (aesthetically displeasing) season. Today, it’s Cory Higgins’ turn.

Offense: D+

When I say “every single… player (and I mean every single one)”… I mean every. single. one. Higgins played in just 38 games, but he still gets a grade.

He might just be the first player I’ve graded this season that didn’t crap his pants every time he touched the ball offensively. His per 36 minutes numbers of nearly 13 points and just over three assists are even pretty good.

But Higgins’ 33 percent field goal percentage this season was dreadful.

Defense: F

The former Colorado Buffalo averaged less than half a steal per 36 minutes, sported a 114 defensive rating (points produced allowed per 100 possessions) and according to Basketball-Reference.com, he corralled less than eight percent of available defensive rebounds while he was on the floor.

Miscellaneous: D-

The guy is young, and he’s basically the opposite of Matt Carroll and Diop; A kid who played well in the D-League and was signed for a minimal amount of money to an NBA team that needed to shore up its bench… As opposed to a sagging veteran, who never really amounted to much in the NBA, but still commanded an unreasonable contract with a team that just needed him to sit on the bench for 40 minutes a game.

Charlotte should keep Higgins around and see what he turns into. He went from scoring eight points in 33 minutes a game as a freshman at Colorado, to scoring nearly 17 points in 32 minutes a game as a senior.

There’s room for improvement, and he’s shown a knack for it in the past.

The worst season in NBA history is in the books, and it’s time to look at the players who made it all possible.

In the coming days I’ll take a look at every single Bobcats player (and I mean every single one), grade their season, and take a look into their future.

The other day I looked at Matt Carroll’s (less-than-eye-pleasing) season. Today, it’s DeSagana Diop’s turn.

Offense: F

I’m really, really not a Diop fan, but I’ll be as objective as possible grading him. The F he gets for his offensive performance this season is wholly warranted; His per-36 minute numbers are absolutely dreadful. He had career lows in points and free-throw percentage per-36, his offensive rating (points produced per 100 possessions) was a sickening 81, and he scored a grand total of 31 points this season.

I know he was signed at a time when Charlotte was (unbelievable, I know) making a push to get into the playoffs, but his contract is like a hot sack of elephant manure rotting a hole through the Bobcats bench every game.

Defense: F

Just three percent of opponent possessions ended in Gana Diop blocks, he averaged less than six defensive rebounds per 36 minutes and his defensive rating (points produced allowed per 100 possessions) was 109.

At least he didn’t do anything as embarrassing defensively as he did when he air-balled that free-throw early on this season…

Miscellaneous: F

There wasn’t anything good about Diop’s season, except that he didn’t play all that much.

His player efficiency rating was less than seven.

He averaged less than one steal AND block combined per game.

Still, I can’t hate on the guy too much… His assist to turnover ratio was a positive 0.2!

Diop will almost certainly be back next year. There’s no way a team is going to pay him more than what he’d get if he signs his player option for next year with Charlotte.

I’d be perfectly content if whoever gets picked to man the Bobcats’ helm next year doesn’t play Diop at all, though.
